Sikh religion is the only religion of the world, in which woman has been given respect equal to man. In the Sikh history women have played exemplary roles, which are unprecedented and unparalleled. There are examples in sikh history, besides attainment of spiritual heights women have been brave warriors also. Mai Bhag kaur Ji has faught in Muktsar battle with unparalleled bravery against Mughal army. There are so many examples of women warriors and martyrs in the sikh history, whose significance is always remembered in daily prayer (Ardas) of Sikhs in gurudwara sahibs.In the Bani of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji has all admiration for women. Guru sahib say ‘So kyon manda aakhiye jit jammein rajaan’. Guru sahib imply by saying this that woman have given birth to emperors of the world, therefore can not be condemned. Bebe Nanaki Ji, the elder sister of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is an eminent example of a woman endowed with a spiritually enlightened soul, who was the first to recognize the divine light in the face of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and to make obeisance to Guru Sahib.

Keeping in view the tradition of equality of woman in sikh religion and the request of some ladies from Ludhiana and Sangat, who expressed their sentiments to participate actively and selflessly in the welfare & religious activities of this institution, Bhai Sahib Bhai Gursharan Singh ji established ‘Istri Wing’ of Bhai Daya Singh Ji (Nishkam) Satsang Sabha (Regd.) in May 2006 in Ludhiana. This wing is aimed at preaching gurmat and acquaint the sangat of Ludhiana city, particularly the women, with the selfless activities and contributions of this institution towards the welfare and services of mankind. This wing comprises of a group of ladies who have already been closely associated with this institution for the last many years by attending ‘Kirtan Samagams’ and ‘Simran Sadhna’ programmes. In Ludhiana they perform kirtan at various locations of the city and spread the message and teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
